This hike is adjacent to beautiful Silver Lake and scenic Highway 88 in Amador County. The easy to moderate six-mile roundtrip hike starts at 7,300 feet elevation. We will hike on a well-maintained trail for three miles, past Granite Lake to Hidden Lake at 7,800 feet elevation (a total elevation gain of 500 feet). There will be great views of Silver Lake and Thunder Mountain, plus some fall color.
Rain or inclement weather cancels the hike. Wear sturdy boots and outdoor clothing appropriate for a fall hike, and bring food and water.
The Forest Service is currently preparing to revise the Eldorado National Forest plan, which will determine future management and protection of this area. The hike is free of charge but limited to 20 people.
Contact Steve Evans at CalWild to RSVP and receive directions to the trailhead: sevans@calwild.org, (916) 708-3155.
