Dear Potential Sponsor,

For 40 years, the California Wilderness Coalition (CalWild) has protected over 16 million acres of wild lands and over 1,500 miles of wild rivers by engaging and organizing with local groups of all kinds.

That success has come in big and small victories from the northwest to the southeast corners of the state. In large part, our work has succeeded with the support of our partners from local individuals and organizations to businesses and foundations.

In this past year, we’ve added three new National Monuments in the California desert: Sand to Snow, Castle Mountains, and Mojave Trails. This astounding success caps a four year campaign with our coalition partners and volunteers and helped create 1.8 million acres of new wilderness! We also saw the addition of Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument linking the wilderness of the North Bay and the western edge of the Central Valley with the many parks of Northern California.

These major victories keep us going and help justify the long road of building local support for wilderness bills. While the President did use his executive authority to designate those three desert monuments, it was only after Senator Feinstein’s exhaustive work with Congress that she was willing to ask the President for the monuments and he was willing to take action.

Ultimately, it was the building of a diverse coalition in favor of the bill that made it happen. We helped bring along environmentalists, tribes, local business, and others. This work isn’t done in months; it’s done in years. And this work isn’t done from the Bay Area or L.A.; it’s done from Barstow and Clear Lake. We will continue that grind because we know it works and have the track record to prove it.

Please consider celebrating your love of wilderness with us and honor the great work of CalWild’s past and future by becoming a sponsor for our 40th Anniversary. Our ability to replicate the success of the past 40 years depends on the continued support of dedicated conservationists like you.

Sincerely,

Doug Linney, Executive Director
