Just three miles off of Interstate 80, Castle Peak Potential Wilderness is among the most scenic areas in the Tahoe National Forest. Home to extraordinary old-growth red fir forests and the little Truckee River, Castle Peak provides clean drinking water to residents of Nevada County.

Proposed Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest

Managing agency: Inyo National Forest

Size: Approximately 28,991 acres.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, inside the White Mountains proposed wilderness, is included in the California Wild Heritage Act. The bristlecone pine is the longest living plant in the world; some trees reach and surpass 4,000 years of age. The Forest will be protected for public enjoyment and scientific study.
