Wilderness Profile

Just three miles off of Interstate 80, Castle Peak Potential Wilderness is among the most scenic areas in the Tahoe National Forest. Home to extraordinary old-growth red fir forests and the little Truckee River, Castle Peak provides clean drinking water to residents of Nevada County.

Let Representative Mike Thompson know you want him to help keep California wild!

Representative Mike Thompson will hear the public's input regarding additions to the Snow Mountain Wilderness, and other potential wilderness areas in his district, at the April 5 town hall meeting.

Representative Thompson will be hosting a town-hall meeting on April 5 in Kelseyville to hear what you think about permanently protecting California's remaining wild places, some of which are in your own backyard. This is an absolutely critical opportunity for residents of Napa, Lake, Yolo and Mendocino counties to tell him that you want Cache Creek, Sanhedrin Mountain, Yuki, King Range, South Fork Eel River Source, Snow Mountain Wilderness Additions, Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness Additions and the Black Butte River permanently protected as wilderness areas or wild and scenic rivers.

These designations will ensure that these places are preserved forever as they are now, so that future generations are able to experience what we enjoy today.

We MUST have a great turnout of wilderness and wild river supporters at this town-hall meeting. If you have time to do only one good thing for the environment this year, please attend this meeting!

WHAT: Town-hall on wilderness and wild rivers conducted by Representative Mike Thompson
WHEN: April 5, 2002 from 6-8 PM
WHERE: In the Pomo Room of the Konocti Harbor Inn Resort and Spa, 8727 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville

Dear Representative Thompson:
California is known throughout the world for itís magnificent wild lands and rivers, places that we are fortunate to have right here in our backyard. These wilderness and free-flowing rivers contribute greatly to our quality of life by providing recreation opportunities to millions, more than 60 percent of our state's clean water, and homes for plants and wildlife, including hundreds of threatened and endangered species. I strongly urge you to help protect the treasures in my region, such as Cache Creek, Sanhedrin Mountain, Yuki, King Range, South Fork Eel River Source, Snow Mountain Wilderness Additions, Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness Additions and the Black Butte River.

Please do all you can to see that these places are permanently protected as wilderness and wild and scenic rivers so that future generations can experience what we enjoy today.

Sincerely,
