Just three miles off of Interstate 80, Castle Peak Potential Wilderness is among the most scenic areas in the Tahoe National Forest. Home to extraordinary old-growth red fir forests and the little Truckee River, Castle Peak provides clean drinking water to residents of Nevada County.

URGE SENATOR FEINSTEIN TO OPPOSE THE JUDICIAL NOMINATION OF WILLIAM MYERS

Please urge Senator Feinstein to block the confirmation of former Interior Solicitor William Myers to a lifetime position on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In nearly all cases, this court has the final say in deciding whether to strike down or to enforce environmental protections and other safeguards in nine western states, including California.

In both his words and his actions, Mr. Myers has shown a deep disdain for all efforts by the federal government to conserve natural resources, even those on federal lands.

He referred to a conservation law passed by Congress as "legislative hubris" and disregarded clear congressional mandates after swearing to implement them.

Mr. Myers has a clear record of favoring the interests of the grazing and mining industries over environmental protection and the rights of Native Americans. His extensive history as an advocate for those industries and his inability to set aside those views and act in the public interest as a senior government official cast serious doubt on his ability to rule fairly and impartially.

Americans have every reason to believe that if Mr. Myers is confirmed, he will use his lifetime power as a federal judge to reshape the American West along radical lines that place corporate profits above all other interests. Please ask Senator Feinstein to reject this extremist anti-conservation nominee and do everything in her power to ensure that other senators vote against the nomination as well.
