WRITE GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER TO STOP BUSH ROLLBACK OF THE ROADLESS RULE

This past week, the California Wilderness Coalition has learned that the Bush Administration will soon propose to roll back protections for nearly 50 million acres of national forests, including 4.4 million acres of the most pristine lands in California. Bush Administration officials have indicated they plan to allow governors to exempt their states from the overwhelmingly popular Roadless Area Conservation Rule, signed into law under President Clinton in January 2001. The Administration is planning to announce this rollback in late March or early April.

Fortunately, we have an excellent chance to influence this decision before it occurs by encouraging Governor Schwarzenegger to make good on his promise to be an environmental champion. Please take a moment to email Governor Schwarzenegger and ask him to tell the Bush Administration to keep national forests in California - and the rest of country - protected under the Roadless Rule.
