Desert
Right now, we are focusing our efforts in southern California on protecting desert wilderness. Significant threats to cultural, recreational, and biological resources on both private and public lands in the California desert remain and new ones arise every day. Despite the breadth of the legislative protections afforded by the1994 California Desert Protection Act, these protections only apply to 40% of the region's public lands, and have not yet been completely realized. We need your help to ensure our incredible deserts survive!
How you can help: We are looking for students who want to be a part of protecting critical areas of the desert for future generations to enjoy. Volunteer projects include coordinating trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, educational hikes and camping trips, and letter writing events to keep our wilderness protected. Volunteers usually commit anywhere from 2-10 hours per week and work closely with CWC staff, as well as other experts and government agency staff. Internships are also available.
